Learning Support

Learning Support

NLIS has an inclusive approach to registration and accepts students with a wide range of ability. Entrance examinations are not required as decisions are made after consultation with parents and review of reports and transcripts. Consequently some students are admitted who may need additional support and our Quest Programme provides that.

Under the Quest, students who need to be taught specific strategies in order to help them study effectively can receive one-to-one tuition from trained staff in skills such as reading, maths, writing and organisation. The school is accredited by CReSTeD in the Category Withdrawal System (WS) Schools and can therefore provide specific support to students who have dyslexia.

The aim of the Quest Programme is to teach students with different learning styles or difficulties to function successfully and independently in an academically challenging, mainstream setting.

We believe the Quest Programme provides an especially favourable environment for those students who may have found traditional learning situations unsuitable. The programme, with its specialists, is an integral part of the school community and is a resource for all teachers and parents.

Further support can be provided through our partner school The Holmewood School, London, a school designed to support students with more complex needs. Access to specialist staff including Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists is available to mainstream NLIS students.
